Philippine Consulate

In 2013, the Philippine Consulate engaged us to remodel the ground floor (street level) function room, now called the Kalayaan Hall, into a multi-purpose hall where exhibits, lectures and other functions can be held.

The Consulate basement was proposed to become a museum to display Filipino arts and other related exhibits.  Aside from elevator access, we proposed a contemporary grand staircase from the ground floor to the basement.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SCHOOL COMPETITION BAYANIHANG PAMPAARALAN by F. Lopez

The Philippine population is growing and so does its educational system and facilities. Our
concept is innovative and designed to cope up with this growth and challenges. The initial
school cluster can be expanded as demand requires and is adaptable for coastal and non-
coastal areas of the country. It is simple, flexible, modular and expandable.
If site constructed, a typical building has concrete foundation and 1/F slab. The 2/F shall be
concrete on metal decking and walls of plastered masonry blocks. The insulated roof will be
asphalt shingles on steel framing wrapped in wood. In pre-fabricated construction, panelized
concrete walls and floor slabs will be used for easily transport and assembly.
For sustainability, solar panels will rest on the lean-to roofs. Large classroom windows provide
ample natural light and ventilation. Other features include high ceilings, environment-friendly
site design, cross ventilation, water use, lighting, rainwater catchment system and low-flow toilet
fixtures, to mention a few.

MEMORIAL TO MENDOZA-GUAZON by F. Lopez

MEMORIAL TO MENDOZA-GUAZON
Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines

The 'Maria Paz Mendoza-Guazon memorial stands out among mausoleums in the Manila Memorial Park as unique, elegant and beautiful. A simple, design of ancient origin - a basic post and beam structure, with concrete, travertine marble, stainless steel, batong buhay and Philippine sea shells - - executed along contemporary fines aptly symbolizes Maria Paz Mendoza Guazon's erudite and liberal mind, rare stamina, tenacity and determination to succeed in every undertaking as it equally reflects her intense love of nature, science, humanity and her country. For the younger generation who may not have heard of Dr. Paz Mendoza-Guazon, here is how the Philippines' Who's Who rates her: "Dr. Maria Paz Mendoza-Guazon was the first woman in the Philippines to graduate in medicine and the first and only Filipino woman to obtain the degree of Doctor of Tropical Medicine. She was also the first president of the National League of Filipino women; the first resident of the Philippine Association of University Women; the first woman elected as alumni member of the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines and the first woman of the Philippines to receive a high school diploma."

DELANEY MEMORIAL by Jun Soliven

THE JOHN PATRICK DELANEY, S.J. MEMORIAL
Ateneo de Manila
Quezon City, Philippines

During their homecoming week, the Ateneo High School Class of 1950 blessed a statue of John P. Delaney S.J., and named the central quadrangle in the Ateneo High School "The John Patrick Delaney, S.J. Plaza."  It was a beautiful gesture – the students of 51 years ago remembering their teacher with love.

Fr. John Delaney came to the Philippines first as a Scholastic in 1928, then as a priest in late 1945. In both instances his first assignment was teaching first-year high school at the Ateneo de Manila. True to the Jesuit plan of educational studies, Fr. Delaney preferred teaching at the secondary-school level, where among the various school levels the chances of forming young men in Christian values have the higher probability.
In school year 1946-47, Fr. Delaney started as teacher of Class 1-A but in the second semester, was promoted to principal of the entire high school – a post he held for three years until the second semester of the 1949-1950 school year. Then he left the Ateneo to become full-time chaplain at the University of the Philippines in Diliman.
On January 12, 1956, Fr. Delaney returned to the Lord he so tirelessly served. He was, as he himself said, "Irish by descent, English by birth, American by nationality – but Filipino by choice."
